Teasers

When I use them, it is for a reason. I feel I can concentrate better on a plug/artificial presentation when not fishing a teaser. So when I use them, I have a good reason. Early season when small bait and Bass are around, if I am fishing an artificial and may want the presentation to possibly attract a False Albie. If I am targeting Weakfish and have a pink Tinman Teaser or if small bait is the prominent bait predators are on. Teasers can be used with all artificials (Hogys, Darters, Metal lips, Avas, Poppers….anything).

Tinman Teasers, Dan makes a great teaser that tied with the loop method really dies not get tangled and flat out catches!

Another favorite Teaser is the small rubber tail that is used on a small Ava. I add some eyes to it, glue the rubber to the hook. I fish these a couple ways, dragging in front of an Ava over a sand bar and in front of a plug.

And Clousers/Deceivers/Bucktails. These also work great. Have had a few times when a Black Deceiver was all that would catch.

The Teaser Leader I make is typically 40 Lb Clear Fluorocarbon, 3.5-4 feet log, about 8″ from the barrel swivel I tie in a loop and on the other end a Breakaway Clip. The teaser has about 6″ of Fluorocarbon and a loop. So I can add/remove/change the teaser on the leader quickly. If I am not planning on fishing a teaser I do not use a Teaser leader.
