I use Van Staal reels, in 2024 I picked up a VSX2-100 late in the season and really liked it. Used the reel all of 2024 and its been great, matches up perfectly with my Evolutions. I have a VSX150 and a couple VSX200s. But I prefer lighter reel/rod combos. I had rotator cuff surgery in 2013 and have issues again, the lighter combos are easier on the shoulder, are more sensitive and more fun (for me). Most of my fishing trips are 6-8 hour walks, I want a reliable reel. These are awesome. I dunk them, scrape them on rocks and throw them in sand. I use the rod as a walking stick so they are wrapped in seaweed and soaked big time. They work. I wash them with fresh water after every trip.
Fishing light plugs I want a reel that is smooth/loose. Crazy important to me.

Off season I check the spools for nicks and clean up if needed. During season, if I notice a “nick”, it gets addressed ASAP.

Upon my first self service I found loose screws from the authorized repair shop . If you want something done right, do it yourself.
