Flatlander Surfcasting Bag

Jamie builds a great bag. Innovative with the Buddy-Lok system, quality and his customer service is top notch (he is very accessible). My fishing outings are usually 6-9 hours away from the vehicle and cover night and morning time (some daylight). So may bring a drink, or a snack, and artificial plugs for night and day. The Flatlander bags and accessories make it easy to cover all the conditions I fish. On rocks, back bay, miles of sand beach, I can leave the vehicle loaded for the outing and comfortable. Over the years I have added a few (a lot) of his bags and accessories to cover the different waters and conditions I fish. I cannot understate the quality and creativity of these bags and accessories, and what a pleasure it is purchasing a surf bag from Jamie. Also, my bags are always attached to my belt, most of the weight is on the belt, almost none on my shoulder.

2024 GRS Two tube bag with single tube attached

The D.B.S. Surfcasting Steele Single Tube Bag -The Tall Bag, I modified it with the Flatlander Buddy-Lok adapter. So can wear it on my belt or on the side of a bag. There are a few tall single tube bags being sold by others, but this one, to me, is the best, awesome. Can add the the Inception Tackle divider (3 way) and it fits a Dinner Catchers, a GRS Slim and the large Freestyler or without the divider two GRS Surface Giants and two Dinner Catchers . It is 12″ deep and 3.5″ diameter. Great addition to the the bag arsenal. An option for the bag or the belt, I like it on the bag, easier for me to grab a plug.

2022 went to Manley 5″ pliers to be used as bolt cutters, 2023 went to the Knipex that are smaller and lighter than the Manley. They will move to the side of the surfbag and the small knife to the belt. I look back a few years at everything I carried, at 63 I am looking for every opportunity to lighten the load…..while carrying to much.

10/24/2021 Surf Belt and Bag, knife, pliers, cutters for hooks and snack bag

New for 2021 is a 11″ Deep Flatlander 3 tube Bag. Jamie nailed what I was looking for.

One bag set-up. Used this often end of 2020

Liking this set-up with the 3 tube bag with front pouch (on the belt with shoulder strap) and the two tub bag on the belt. Not to heavy, I have plugs for the daylight in the two tube bag and move them over to the other bag as light approaches. Its easier for me to pull stuff out of the left side bag. Hogys, shads and Snaxs are in the pouch.

Set-up for a night of fishing in the rain with lots of sand eels around, needles and rubber….and some plastic……This is a relatively light set-up, Flatlander back bay bag does the lifting in the set-up

11/24/2019 Set-up

Set-up for small surf, 9 hour walk. Lighter load this trip…..

Ready for a trip where the surf will build from 2′ to 6′. Bucktails, needles, heavy needles and bottle plugs added to the arsenal for this trip.

Long walk, 9 1/2 hours, covered 2 1/2 miles of sand. Gatorade, snack, top water plugs for when the sun rises, night plugs, Snax, Hogys, shads, knife, bolt cutters, leader wallet, pliers.

This trip I added some dividers to keep tangle ups to a minimum. Worked, carried less plugs but had no tangle ups. Also in the one tube bag I put plugs for when it gets light out. I switch some plugs around as its easier to get plugs out of the bag on my left side…

Little lighter set-up than the previous week. 3 tube bag instead of the four tube and the knife moved to the side of the bag. Another 8-9 hour fun walk in the surf.

10/5/2019 Belt and Bag Set-up

Ready for a 9 hour late September walk. 6 hours in dark and 3 in the light.

Late June, narrowed down what I was fishing with and went to this set-up. A little lighter and less plug tangles. Spare leaders in the pouch on the bag.

6/23/2019 Belt setup, Shads and Hogys in the one bag, the Back Bay Bag keeps pugs separate, less tangling. Added a single tube attachment to the bag for a few larger plugs. Have the bolt cutters, pliers and knife in the Buddy-Lok attachments. Great set-up, made for a tangle free trip (and a few fish caught).

Here is a early June set-up for an AM night trip. Boga (self made holder), Flatlander bag and accessories: pliers holder, bolt cutter holder, camera holder, knife holder and water bottle holder.

Using this set-up with smaller plugs, tube diameter is smaller so I don’t get as many plug tangles. A bay bag (primary) and a two tube bag. Plus a side bag (snack, back-up light). Pliers holders (Pliers and small bolt cutter), Knife holder, camera holder.

Flatlander 2 bag set-up on the belt

One of the set-ups, 3 tube bag + single tube

I added the knife attachment, takes up a small amount of space on the belt and is readily accessible. Attaches the Aqua Lung Squeeze Lock Titanium Knife to it.
